They are automatically given. When you load up on weapons but spend less than the allocated amount they build up. Trouble is we all like to be tooled up to the max! I am usually on a minus figure. Try a hit and run mission with 1 or 2 men but only spend half. The left over cash will be there for your next mission. I really think we should be able to win credits or do a bit of blackmarket trading.
Right so it's just what you have built up credits in the bank previously, where you save on credits, as I do, for more important missions, and as you do on hit and run; me too. I thought it was something different to that. I thought what you had saved up automatically got added to the credits and not kept separate. Also you say next mission Pete but I take it it's not just the next but any future ones too?
I thought it was some bonus you got for winning games or something.
First, yes credits go to any future mission. I don't think we can win any credits but we should. The other thing I forgot is I think we start the Campaign with credits in the bank but I can't remember how much. It's usually spent so quickly I reckon it can't be much. I reckon one simple improvement would be to start with a much larger sum for everybody.
I think what you mean is you have mission allocated credits but spend over that mission set figure it is then deducted from your personal credits ( if you have any). I am skint as usual, AP100's cost a bomb. Sorry I couldn't resist saying it.
I see a discrepancy. Through the app it's showing I have 384 credits available. Equipping through the site instead it says I have 639 credits avaible which includes 319 campaign credits. Well if through the app I have 384 credits to equip and through the website I have an additional 319 saved campaign credits available, that should add up to (384 + 319 =) 703 not 639 as being shown.
A little here, a little there. ;) Hit and run games which I'm crap at and lose anyway, and some credits change left over from certain games that I put in the piggy bank. To be honest I've saved up a bigger sum than I thought.
But yes, adding the two figures (normal mission allocation + saved campaign credits) for my capture the flag game, the amount available should be higher. Not that I intend using it all in that game by any means, it's just it doesn't add up!
I think some missions have a capping amount on tha max you can spend beyond the normal mission allocation even if you own half of Fort Knox. So what I am ruminating is you have the allocated mission fund plus the percentage of extra funds you own allowed. It doesn't account for the total you own which in your case is a higher figure. Hence the discrepancy. If I am right about this I amazed at myself. If I am wrong I would like an award for best forum fiction.
Yes, the same thing crossed my mind also after I posted my previous post, perhaps there is a cap on the amount of savings you can tap into per mission. Great minds think alike. B-)
Separate to your query, I find it strange to have this credit system in place that rarely gets used properly. It looks like all the hard work has been done implementing it and making it perform. It is there in Campaign functioning perfectly well but very quietly. Like some sort of dormant secret or forgotten system, waiting one day to be called upon to be more.
By the way Xeno don't worry I am not suggesting any fancy off world convuluted alien financial deals. Just making it a more active part of the Campaign.
No agree, it is rather hidden. Doesn't show within the app, only online when you equip. That is only something I've started doing more often so only really noticed recently. Like I said, I assumed what you saved got added automatically to your next mission and so on and not kept separately to use online.
I think there is a fundemental flaw with the Campaign. One the one hand the systems such as Campaign credit, all the unit stats and the missions are pretty sophisticated. On the other hand players join a faction that doesn't have a function other than just to be in a gang without a leader or any faction tasks. The Campaign map and objective is also a bit blunt or crude. You win by domination and relentless battering of oppenents. It's why weariness sets in because there is huge amount of repetitive sector retaking. There's loads of strategy within the mission games but on the map it's mostly marching foward at the enemy or preventing the enemy from doing the same. Maybe some simple addition to the map would address this. Certain sectors could have a bonus opportunity such as credit wins for the victor or a different idea; the faction holding certain sectors would gain extra credit income for all members of that faction while owning those sectors.
Xeno: I've just had a look at the code (since it's been so long since I wrote that bit) and in a campaign game, a player is only allowed to spend up to 20% more than they would be given for a normal game. IIRC this was to prevent players "throwing" a game in order to accumulate creds and then buying tons of equipment for another game. Let me know if anything else needs clarifying.
Regarding using creds for something else, I had the thought a few years ago of implementing some kind of system where a player could pay another player to take over a sector or something. As always, time prevented it.
Cheers, good to know. Also what you save in the bank as it were, it stays there until you use it. In other words it doesn't disappear or deplete if it's not used over a certain time or number of missions.
Sorry that last post of mine came over as a statement rather than a question which it was suppose to be. I omitted those hooked punctuation symbols which could have altered that. :p
I'd like to ask the question again because I do save up campaign credits yet they do seem to disappear quicker than what I use them, so would like to know for sure whether they can only be held for a certain period of time or a set number of missions, or they stay in the bank indefinitely.
Also, where can I find how many campaign credits I have saved? I only ever see campaign credits come up if I equip through the website and it gives the number but if I equip through the app as most people I would assume do, there is no indication of the number.
Your campaign credits are only reduced when they are spent, and they don't expire. You can see your campaign credits under My Pages -> Campaign Squad (on the website). They're not shown in the app at the moment.
I've just been checking on the "campaign credits" code, and I've just been reminded that it costs money to buy extra units over and above the standard number of units for that mission. The cost per extra unit is calculated as the "standard credits for the mission, divided by the standard number of units for the mission, then divided by 2." E.g, if the standard credits is 200, and the mission usually has 8 units, the cost per extra unit is 200 / 8 / 2 = 12.5cr
Ah interesting. That probably explains my earlier comment: "I do save up campaign credits yet they do seem to disappear quicker than what I use them".
I noticed they reduce beyond the extra weapon allocation and now that mystery is cleared up: it's because I also use extra units sometimes which depletes it.
However, do you get credits back if you use less than the normal deployment?
If your perfectly fine with that Steve and you think it would be a good idea to try out then I'm all for it. But only if it isn't time consuming, that it can be done quickly and easily. Otherwise it's okay, pethaps another time.
I've been meaning to join as a patron for ages, finally got round to it, given how often I play Stellar Forces I feel like I owe back pay. Would encourage all regular players to chip in if they can afford it, it's only a few dollar a month and Steve does a great job of communicating and keeping SF running. Thanks Steve!! :) https://www.patreon.com/stellarforces/posts
Rabid: Thanks a lot! :) Obviously I appreciate the money ( >:) ) but the real bonus for me is to know that people are enjoying the game so much as to help pay for its upkeep. I've been programming for years, and 95% of my games have come to nought. I've come to realise that the reason for this is because no-one else appreciates them (not that they neccesarily should, cos about 90% were rubbish!) but knowing that people out there want to play this really gives me the impetus to keep working on it. Thanks again!
